10 things of thankful #8

Well, this week I have been on holiday in the north of England.  Unfortunately it hasn't turned out quite the way we planned, with no less than four trips to a hospital 40 minutes away, as my Mum has cellulitis and needed I.V. antibiotics, but I've STILL found 10 things to be thankful for!

1.  We have had a lovely holiday let to stay in, with a massive kitchen, a bedroom each, right in the middle of little old Rothbury and it's had everything we could need.  We have been most comfortable!  And it has a roll top bath - a thing I would have in my dream house!

2.  The house has internet, which has let me keep in touch, and stopped be getting bored in the evenings and when waiting around for the faffer mother.

3.  The 350 mile trip up here, which I undertook with trepidation in one go last Saturday, went without a hitch - we didn't really hit much traffic, no accidents, made it here safely - phew!  I'm still glad we're stopping overnight halfway tonight though!

4.  Last Sunday we went to a lovely little pub and had an amazing carvery, and not only was the food amazing, the view out through the patio doors was pretty awesome too:

5.  Being far more rural than I'm used to here, I went on one of my little explores, albeit without Considerer :(.  And again, the scenery didn't disappoint, and I didn't get lost, or rained on!

6.  Okay, it's been a pain with all the hospital visits, but I'm glad of all the doctors, nurses and drugs she has had to sort her out, and I hope her leg is now on the mend.

7.  I am thankful that after the second visit to the hospital we were able to do my Mum's cousins a favour and get her Aunt home from the hospital.  She's in her 80s and hadn't been very well on their holiday in Malta.  She was kept in overnight on her return and seeing as we were going over to the hospital anyway, we made arrangements to pick her up.  It was lovely to see her again as we don't get up here much, and it was good to be able to help get her home.

8.  Yesterday morning I went to the most amazing bookshop ever, and it was fab, and I want to go again, and I still can't believe I was so restrained that I only bought three books!

9.  I actually wrote a poem this week, which once I started, just sort of flowed (check out my other blog http://butterflythinker.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/hold-on.html ).  I'm really getting this writing bug now!

10.  I got to visit Holy Island which I have wanted to for a while, and am so glad I managed to get there Tuesday before the daily hospital treks started.  There is something special about the place, the scenery is lovely, it is peaceful and other-worldy, and I need to go back and see more.

So we'll see what thankful things this coming week brings, hopefully it will be a bit less chaotic, even if I will be back at work!

    1. Yes they are, and I love spreading the thankfulness around. I just hope I can be thankful we get home on time tomorrow lunchtime for next I.V. dose at Southampton General!

  2. Oh, your poor mom. Cellulitis isn't something to be messed with from what I've heard.
Glad you were able to have some fun and new experiences despite the hospital trips.

I, too, can't believe you got out of that store with only three books. I don't think I could have had that much restraint.

    1. Thank you, I think her leg will get there in the end, just bad timing! And you're right, at least I managed to get some fun in!

I was surprised how restrained I was in the bookshop, I think if I'd allowed myself to hang around and look more I would have ended up getting more!

  3. love the photo... why it looks just like in the movies!

carvery?? please define (I have this imagine of wenches and eating with knives and pretty much an all out Tom Jones thing (the movie not the singer) lol

bookstores are still awfully great places, until Kindle comes out with a Reader that puffs out whiffs of old glue and leather...the real thing is still way superior

I'll be back later in the day...work calls

    1. I keep forgetting Americans read this lol, a carvery is a British Sunday roast dinner, where you go up to the counter and pick from various meats which are sliced for you (chicken, maybe turkey, lamb, pork, beef) and help yourself to all the veg, trimmings and sauces - it's amazing! Offered at many pubs and restaurants over here, some places just on Sundays, some all week. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carvery

My sister is of your school of thought re: the Kindle, but I seem to manage to get lost in the story and not notice the device, and sometimes it is more convenient than a proper book, and I downloaded a lot of old classics onto it for free when I bought it.

  4. Northern England really has some fantastic scenery, doesn't it? Although I think I'm spoilt living in the West Wales landscape {grin}
It must have been tough on you all, especially your mum, to have the hospital treks happen, and I hope she's recovered well now :)
Oh, and I really envy you the Carvery, and the book shop, though I couldn't tell you in which order! Lol

    1. Thanks Katy, yes it is beautiful up there, we're to get to the hospital for 1pm tomorrow for the next dose, and we'll see what they say to do after that, but it is looking better.

I agree with you, I couldn't chose between the carvery and the bookshop, way too hard!

  7. Sweet bathtub. Beautiful scenery. And if you explored and didn't get lost, then maybe, just MAYBE, we know who the guilty one is that causes you to lose your way on your other adventures....

  10. Oh there are still some of those avocado suites existing? I see them on Homes under the Hammer! Okay, okay, so you can do successful solo explores too - maybe it's just when we get together?
