Twisted Mix Tape - Songs of a different class

So this week at Jen's the idea is to come up with 5 songs you like, even though they're from a genre you never normally listen to.

Now my sister and anyone else who has seen my CD collection and itunes account will verifty it is mostly full of cheesy pop, R&B, soul, slushy stuff and the odd bit of hip-hop and funk.  What there is NOT a whole album of at all is heavy metal, grunge, hard rock - but sometimes, there is a song which helps me get my rock chick side out!  So these are they:

1. Motorhead – Ace of Spades
I don't recall when I first heard this one, but I've always enjoyed it for a bit of screaming and headbanging!

2. Rammstein – Mutter
I first got introduced to this band when I was working with a counter assitant who liked them, and as I was also studying German part-time she saw fit to tell me all about them, and get me to translate some lyrics.  Having looked at this one, it's fair to say he has some mommy issues!

3. Prodigy – Firestarter
Now as I was leaving school in 1997 "Fat of the Land" was THE album everyone had (mostly on cassette - yes I am that old) and this soared in the charts, it was everywhere, and I find it quite catchy and good for getting some aggression out!

4. Nirvana – Smells like teen spirit
Some people in my class liked Nirvana, I was vaguely aware of them, but it wasn't until my sister started playing this quite regularly that I started to "get" them.  Unfortunately Dave Grohl is not very visible in this video as he is flipping his hair in front of his face and Kurt Cobain didn't let him sing, just as well he founded Foo Fighters where my sister gets to see him a lot more!

5. AC/DC  - Highway to hell

I have my Dad and his wife to thank for introducing me to AC/DC - and this is my favourite of theirs, it can get a party started and bring the house down!

So please feel free to comment, and get over to Jen's with your own list!

    1. Thank you :) I did quite like doing this, but I promise you my knowledge of the rest of this genre is pretty poor, maybe I should explore some more?

  5. Metal was almost my post! But I could barely think of 5. If I had included Classic Rock I probably could have done it. But you are so right, there are those songs you just have to rock out to!

  8. Yup. Metal. That rounds out the Trifecta of Turgid in my book: Country, Hip Hop and Metal. I like Nirvana. Excellent pick, nothing at all even remotely turgid there. And you're dad introduced you to AC/DC? I'm old.
