For Jen's Twisted Mix Tape Tuesday this week, the theme is spirituality, songs which we find spiritual. And since I've been going to church for 4-5 years now, I've focused on faith, songs I know from church. I had many to chose from, and I've tried to tell the story of a spiritual life from beginning to end.
1. Come as you are (to worship)
2. Mighty to Save
And when we do that, come to Him and accept that Jesus was sent to make things right and die for us so we could be forgiven and have that relationship with God, He saves us, all of us, it's there for the taking by anyone.
3. Blessed be your name
And because of what He has done for us, and He made us, He is worthy of the ultimate praise and devotion. Through the good times. And the bad times. We get tested in life, mostly as a result of our weak, human nature, and He gets us through. He is always there.
And there are so many things to be thankful in life, if we just look for them, focus on them and don't get bogged down in the bad stuff. For after this life we have the hope of eternity, where all the pain and sufferring will cease and all will be made right. Amen to that.
And just for a lovely one to end on, here's the real primary aim in life, to get back up to our Father in heaven once it's all finished :).
So, please comment, and get yourself over to Jen's to make your own tape!
A wonderful list, especially the first two songs. Have always loved Come As You Are!
ReplyDeleteThank you :). Yes, I like it too, one of the first ones I remember touching me when I started going to church.
DeleteOh yeah! Spirit In the Sky! Good one. What a hilarious band name too, right? Doctor and the Medics? hahaha
ReplyDeleteThanks, yeah I don't know who came up with that lol, but you don't forget it do you? It was the 70s wasn't it?
DeleteThis is a fantastic list.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sam :)
DeleteI don't know the Norman Greenbaum version that well, will have to check it out, but I do remember the Gareth Gates version (it was a charity single, but forget which one now) - it was funny!
ReplyDeleteYep, I do like Matt Redman stuff, it does talk to me somehow.
I love Bless the Lord, especially singing it really loudly. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a good one, I like to sing it in church, hope nobody picks my voice out from amongst the crowd though!
Deletevery excellent cover of 'Spirit in the Sky'! ...funny how some songs never get old and some that you didn't expect (at the time of the original) comes back again and again, back in popularity with whole different generations.
ReplyDeleteHi Clark, yes some songs really do stand the test of time and get recycled a lot. I remember in my teens liking songs and my Mum would say "oh that's not their song, that was done by so-and-so ages ago!" - it would always surprise me!
DeleteEmma, I love this list! There are so many good Christian songs out there. I love Come Now is the Time to Worship, it is always a favorite to hear at church. Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen :) It was a pleasure to do.
